Rosalind Biodefense Program

How to apply

We’re launching the Rosalind Biodefense Program to support high-impact, defensive applications of AI in the life sciences through free GPT‑Rosalind API use. Our goal is to help researchers, public health teams, and mission-driven organizations accelerate work on non-pharmaceutical interventions, epidemiological modeling, biosurveillance, preparedness, medical countermeasure (MCM) development, and other public-health-relevant capabilities.

If you have already developed an application that can benefit from GPT‑Rosalind AP access, we invite you to share how it will improve societal resilience and what support is needed to make your project more impactful. If you are developing a new defensive application, we are excited to leverage our frontier AI models can help accelerate that work.

We’re especially interested in projects where advanced AI can materially improve the speed, quality, or scale of defensive research workflows, such as literature synthesis, protocol design support, model-building, data harmonization, simulation, decision support, and scientific communication. We welcome applications from academic, nonprofit, government-affiliated, small-to-midsized companies, and other qualified research teams working on projects with clear public benefit.

Strong proposals will be focused, technically credible, and designed for real-world impact. They should clearly explain the problem being addressed, why AI is meaningfully useful for the work, what the team will build or study, what success looks like, and how the project will be conducted responsibly. We are particularly interested in projects that can advance biodefense capabilities while also helping identify new opportunities for AI systems to better support life sciences research.

Application materials to include:

  • Who’s involved, what you plan to do, when and where it will happen, and why it matters
  • How you’ll make your results available to others
  • An idea of the budget—including what you could accomplish with different levels of funding.

Review Process

We review proposals on a rolling basis and will get in touch with applicants if you qualify.

Given the quantity of applications we receive, we can not provide detailed feedback on unapproved submissions. However, if you refine your idea later on, feel free to submit the updated proposal in full and mention it’s a revision.

Above all, we value collaboration and openness. We encourage teams to share findings early, connect with others, and help leverage the potential of AI to contribute to biodefense.  All projects should be intended to be licensed or distributed for maximal public benefit and sharing, and we will prioritize applications that have a clear plan for this.
